Gregory Broome, a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and beloved friend to many, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and love on Friday, November 8, 2024. He was 76 years old. Born at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens, NY, Greg grew up in East Meadow, NY, as the youngest of five children of father Charles and mother Agnes. As a child and young adult, Greg cultivated a lifelong love of classic movies, television, history, pop culture, and music. But his greatest passion was always people—family, friends, and the countless lives he touched through his warm personality and boundless sense of humor. Greg proudly embraced his career as “The Milkman,” delivering dairy products to businesses and commercial buildings across Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx for nearly 30 years. It wasn’t just a job to him—it was a sort of calling to his independent spirit and extroverted nature. He built connections with his customers and colleagues, embodying friendliness, and kindness. Before his professional life, Greg served his country with honor. In 1965, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Yorktown during the Vietnam War. His service earned him the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1967, leaving the Navy with a deep pride in his contributions.

Despite his recent health struggles, Greg never wavered in his habit of opening every phone call with a simple, heartfelt, “How are you doing?” His warmth and humor were constants throughout his life. Whether performing his signature magic tricks like the “disappearing card trick,” sharing an endless supply of jokes and one-liners, or leaving behind an origami dollar-bill ring, Greg knew how to light up a room. Greg was predeceased by his beloved wife of 33 years, Barbara Ann Broome (née Serin), who passed in 2011. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter. In addition to his three children with Barbara, Jesse Broome (and his wife, Naomi), Aaron Broome, and Shanna Broome, he was also survived by his son Mitchell Maybury, daughter Jean Munoz, son Gregory Broome (and his wife, Heidi), daughter Tiffany Elhajoui, and many grandchildren. His family was his world, and he was theirs. Now reunited with Barbara, his legacy of love, laughter, and service lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, we ask friends and family to donate in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Vietnam Veterans of America, or March of Dimes.
