Obituary

Robert Perry DeMott, beloved grandfather, father and husband, passed away on November 4, 2024. Born in Oceanside, NY, son of Leroy and Dorothy DeMott, he graduated from Oceanside High School and joined the US Navy in 1961. Returning to Long Island in 1965 after his service around the world, he met a girl on a beach to start the path to a 58-year marriage, 4 children and 7 grandchildren. Bob married Marion Roberta Piotroski in 1966. They explored America together, moving to the California desert, an island off the coast of Florida and Middle Georgia before returning to Long Island in 1978. After living in Valley Stream for 21 years, they relocated their adventures to Islip Terrace in 1999 where they had room for a pony, which turned into a place where the children and grandchildren could instigate raising or rehabilitating all manner of other critters. He will continue to be loved by his children – Robert Perry DeMott II, Rodger Martin DeMott, Renee Edythe DeMott and Ruth Dorothy DeMott; grandchildren – Aaron Redfern, Samantha DeMott, William DeMott, Robyn DeMott, Ryan DeMott, John DeMott and Morgan Maurici. Bob was a beloved uncle, cousin, and friend ready for any new adventure or excitement. And, this is how he faced a cancer diagnosis in November of 2023. Under the outstanding care of the VA, he beat back his disease in the spring and got to spend summer days fishing with his son and grandson one last season. Missed, but remembered as a man unafraid to chart his own course, and a blessing to so many. Journey in peace.
