Obituary

James Gerard Falkenburgh aged 70, passed away on September 24, 2024. He was a beloved father, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Jimmy was born on August 3, 1954 in Ridgewood, Queens, NY, where he spent his early childhood. His family later moved to Levittown, NY and he went on to attend a Catholic School education at Trinity High School, he prided himself as being the first Trinity Mascot. He worked jobs in Bethpage Carwash, Dairy Barn, and drove a Good Humor Ice Cream truck while attending Nassau Community College where he studied Entomology, he worked as an exterminator for a short time, but life took him into another direction which would be his career. He became a Sanitation Worker for the Town of Hempstead, NY. The security of this career enabled him to be the protector and provider for his family, which was always his main concern. He was selfless for his family and the ones he loved because “that is what a man does”. Throughout his career, whether he was doing back door or Route sanitation, he kept his guys safe, and “picked it up and got it done.” He was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. Jimmy prided himself on his German/Irish heritage, the food, the drink, the culture and the history of Longford, the county of his Irish roots. He loved spending time with people who crossed into his life by sharing stories- which he had many.

.

He was a wordsmith “who knew a little bit about a lot of things.” In his free time, Jimmy enjoyed throwing steel tip darts- “no rubber tipped with electronic boards for him.” He enjoyed fishing, and listening to HIS MUSIC, and his sports, Giants and Yankees fan to the end, but his biggest passion was hunting always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. He counted the days until the next opening day, where he would reconnect with the wild life chattering over his head while waiting for that deer to walk by. He always said he did his best thinking, reflection, and reminiscing in a tree stand. He was a 30 year active member of the Knights of Columbus- Bishop McDonald Council of Babylon, NY, and St. Patrick Council of Bay Shore, NY, He held various positions and volunteered for various causes until attaining the position of the Grand Knight of Bishop McDonald for 2 years until the council dissolved. Jimmy is survived by his loving mother, Bernadette Falkenburgh, his brother Robert Falkenburgh (Rosemarie), and their children, Alison and Michael Falkenburgh his sister Regina Johnson (Robert), and their children, Keith, Craig, and Dennis Johnson. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Beth, his step children, Margaret Zepeda (Felipe), Michelle Murgolo (Nicholas), Melissa Snyder (Michael), and his grandchildren, Ariana, Jonathan, and David Zepeda, Elizabelle, Elenora, Emilia and Nicholas Murgolo, and William and Sophia Snyder. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him, and he will be greatly missed. Jimmy was also survived by his biological children, Luke and Rene Falkenburgh.
