Obituary
Richard J. Brancato, most lovingly called Ace, passed away Friday, December 15th, at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife Lucy and his three daughters: Krista Fehrenbach (Reiner), Laura Brancato and Andrea Breen (Bill). He will be most missed by his seven grandchildren: Ava, Aidan, Mia, Tate, Ethan, Natalie and Moira. He was the beloved son of the late Muriel and Andy Brancato and son in law of the late Antoinette and Luigi DiNozzi. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Brancato, brothers and sisters in law, many first cousins, nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends.
A successful men's clothing retailer, Richard was the founder and owner of Domino Men's Shop for more than 40 years. With locations at the Walt Whiman, Smithhaven, Bay Shore and Green Acres Malls, Richard was a fixture of the Long Island small business community, as well as being an active member of the Myrtle Avenue Business Improvement District in Queens, New York. Richard had a deep love and appreciation for the mens clothing business, and he cherished his role as a small business owner and entrepreneur.
.
Richard came from promising beginnings after being born in Brooklyn, New York. He later moved to Richmond Hill, Queens where he attended Richmond Hill High School. A graduate of St. John's University with both his bachelors and masters degrees, Richard had a strong connection to Queens where he first lived with his wife, Lucy and daughter, Krista. Richard and Lucy went on to have two more daughters, Laura and Andrea, in Whitestone, Queens, before settling their family in Melville. The Brancato Family lived there for more than 39 years while their daughters attended St. Anthony's High School.
He was happiest at Shea Stadium or Giants Stadium where he taught his daughters and grandchildren the art of losing gracefully as Mets and Giants fans. He could always be found having a catch in the yard or listening to a Mets game on WFAN radio while vacuuming the pool. He was adored by his many friends for his quick wit, joke telling talents and warm smile. Kind to everyone he encountered, Ace got an immense amount of joy being with his grandchildren.
Though diagnosed at a very young age with Vascular Dementia, Ace made the most of his time with his family and friends and continued to be the kind and gentle man that so many cherished and loved. Devoted and revered until his last days, Ace faced his diagnosis with dignity and grace, remaining his polite and gentle self. Never far from the minds of his loved ones, his spirit of compassion, hard work, and dedication live on in his daughters and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in Richard's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Thank you.
