John Noto, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, passed away on November 8, 2023, at the age of 99. He was born on January 11, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York and was the loving son to Marie Antonia Noto (nee Ciaccio) and Alberto Noto. John was the youngest of six siblings, preceded in death by his brothers and sisters Angelina, Margaret, Jack, Mary, Philip, and Angelo. John's love story began at a young age when he declared to his childhood sweetheart Mary Gianino, "I'm going to marry you." Their dream came true as they were married for an incredible 67 years until her passing. Together they raised four children: Patricia (Charlie Mascari), John, Susan (the late Bill Orange), and Jean (Roy Deary). As parents, John and Mary were known for their unwavering support and love of their children. John was a devoted grandfather to Angela, Jennifer, Rob, Cameron, Nicole, Jennifer, Bill and Caren. He is also survived by his loving great grandchildren, Bradley, Benjamin, Kai, Travis, Ryder, Shea, Ava, Baily and Carly. In addition to being a dedicated family man, John had an accomplished career. He attended Franklin School of Professional Arts in Manhattan and became a draftsman for Grumman Aerospace Corporation. His work included contributing to a significant NASA project: the Lunar Excursion Module used during the United States' Apollo program. John's expertise helped bridge lunar orbit with the Moon's surface.

Outside of his professional life, John was widely recognized as the proprietor of two stellar delis in Bethpage and Lindenhurst. Customers flocked to these establishments not only for the delicious food but also for John's warm hospitality and genuine care for everyone who walked through his doors. John served his country with honor as a Private First Class in the Army for three years. His role as a radar technician earned him recognition with prestigious medals such as the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. On August 6th, 1945, during World War II's final stages, John was part of a highly classified radar unit when history altered forever. He was on duty when the Enola Gay, a Boeing B-29 Super fortress, became the aircraft to drop the first atomic bomb in warfare. John witnessed a moment that would shape history and humankind's relationship with technology. Deeply rooted in his faith, John was a devout Roman Catholic. He found solace and strength through his faith, which guided him throughout his life. John’s talents were many. He was a prolific artist, a singer, a cook, an avid reader, card player, a baseball armchair expert and a wonderful storyteller. He excelled in math, sports, and family parties. He will be remembered for always being there for everyone, for his welcoming, happy, fun-loving nature. John Noto's funeral will be held to honor and celebrate his remarkable life. His passing leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and remarkable accomplishments. John will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family, his professional achievements, and his service to his country. May he rest in eternal peace. Visitation will be Saturday from 7-9:00 PM and Sunday 2-4:00 & 7-9:00 PM. Funeral mass 10:00 AM Monday at Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church. Interment to follow at Holy Rood Cemetery.
