Obituary

Geraldine Ann “Geri” Nicholson As fate would have it, the consummate nurse spent her last hours in the hospital during Nurses’ Week. Over the course of Geri’s nursing career, she provided exemplary care for average patients and hospital VIPs alike and made lifelong friends. Even in retirement she continued to “check on patients” whether it was the neighbor that needed a ride or the friend who started a new medication and needed some discussion or the family member who had surgery and wanted her to check out that everything looked good, she was always caring for others. Always a New Yorker, even when she lived in Jersey for a few years, Geri loved going to the theater and sampling different restaurants. Theater was a monthly occurrence with a subscription or a special treat to introduce someone new to Broadway or a celebration for special occasions. Geri loved celebrating and she decorated for Christmas as if she had an army of decorators working for her, not just herself and her trusty grabber stick. It was always nice to stop in for a visit and enjoy her beautiful decorations and hear the stories of her ornaments. Whether it was a trip to the theater, a family bbq, or just shopping and running errands, Geri was impeccably dressed, with her hair set and her jewelry on. And all of those occasions could include great stories; stories of Lake Panamoka, stories of her early nursing days, stories of friends, stories of the basketball game she watched last night or the great play she went to. Geri’s discussions covered a variety of topics, but her favorite topic was her many nieces and nephews and godchildren and how proud she was of them. Aunt Geri, or AG as she is affectionately nicknamed by some, will be missed by us all.
