Obituary

Guider, Arlene, (nee Curtin) 79, of West Islip, NY passed away peacefully on July 30th, 2022. She was the loving wife of Cornelius J. Guider Jr., and devoted and doting mother of Rosemary and Eileen. Born on February 21st, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Everett and Rita Curtin. Sister to Maureen Dixon (Ken) and Kathleen Winti (John) and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Arlene is a proud graduate of Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, NY and St. John’s University in Jamaica, Queens. Arlene obtained her Master’s degree plus 75 credits from Long Island University in Greenvale, NY. Arlene also attended the Teacher’s College at Columbia University. Arlene was a dedicated educator. She spent 38 years teaching elementary school in Deer Park, NY retiring from many years at John Quincy Adams Elementary School. She found it to be the most rewarding job in the world. In retirement, Arlene continued her passion of teaching as a volunteer religion teacher at her parish, St. Joseph’s in Babylon, NY. Reposing at The Frederick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy., (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.).Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial Friday, 10:30 am on August 5th, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Babylon, NY. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, from 7:00 pm until 9:30 pm, and Thursday, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, and 7:00 pm until 9:30 pm.
