.
Long time resident of West Islip, Joan was well loved by everyone. She lived for the family she and her beloved husband of 70 years, Jack created. Joan was always ready for a good time, which often included music and dancing. And of course laughter. The home was ALWAYS filled with laughter. She loved Jack and they knew their love is eternal. She loved their 8 children, 19 grand-children and 22 great grand-children. She always had time for a story from all of them or about them. She was a proud Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. GG!! At the time of her passing Joan’s immediate family had grown to 68. An incredible legacy.
Joan’s career of choice was full time Mom. And she excelled at it. She LOVED being around kids, so
much so that after her own were pretty well grown she became a lunch lady at the highschool. She
loved that job because she loved the kids, and they loved her. She was the first lunch lady to get an
honorary invite to the Senior Prom! Joan also loved animals…she loved watching the birds, ducks, squirrels and rabbits in the yard. She would talk to them and we believed they heard and understood her!!! Through the years there was always a pet, or pets in the house. Dogs, cats, bunnies, birds, hamsters, turtles, etc. She always loved a cat or dog by her side, be they real or stuffed toys you always saw one by her side. She passed that love on to her children and grand-children.
Joan was a very special person. She could make friends with anybody, always making whomever she
was speaking with feel like they were family. And more often than not, making them laugh and feel
good! She loved life and made the most of it.
Joan’s memory will live on forever in the hearts and minds of all that she touched. Especially her loving
family and her beloved husband Jack. And we know …. The stories, of which there are many, will
continue to be passed on from generation to generation.
