Obituary

Obituary of Irene Anna Buetow Rabbitt Irene A. Buetow-Rabbitt, 94, of Hicksville and recently of Plainview, passed away, June 6, 2021. Irene was born to Anna Navrot Buetow and Elmer R. Buetow on September 23, 1926 in Hicksville.  She graduated from Hicksville High School in 1943 and received her nursing degree from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in 1946 where she later taught. Irene was married to her adoring husband Robert J. Rabbitt for 62 happy years in Hicksville where they raised 8 children. She is survived by 3 sons - Bob (Diane), John (Rosemary), and Paul.  Irene is survived by 5 daughters - Kathleen (Bill) Carriero, Sue (Lou) Zabbia, Clare Morosoff, Anne (John) Guarino, and Irene (Jim) Hawkins.  Irene doted on 26 grandchildren and 27 (and counting) great-grandchildren.   Irene is predeceased by her sisters Clara M. Buetow, Sr. Mary Imelda Buetow and her brother, Fr. Harold A. Buetow. Irene is survived by her brother Dr. Gerald W. Buetow (Ann) formerly of West Islip, currently of Virginia. As a mother and housewife, Irene enjoyed sewing clothes for her children and some of their dolls, shopping for a bargain or sale, gardening, gadgets, organizing and labeling, reading, cake decorating, traveling, and most of all spending time with friends and family.   We love you more.  We said it first.
