Obituary
Marie Imbornone, age 74, passed away peacefully in her home of 46 years in West Islip, New York on Saturday, Aug 8th, after a two-year battle with breast cancer. She was so beautiful, most people never knew she was sick.
Marie was born in Brooklyn, New York, the youngest of five children to Joseph and Mary Contonzo on June 21, 1946. She met the love of her life at a dance club in Kew Gardens in Queens Village and immediately knew they would be married someday. They were married soon after on September 26, 1965. Dancing continued throughout their marriage anytime or anywhere, like the kitchen or patio, especially if Salsa music was playing.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and recent great-grandmother, Marie is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Alfonse, her children; Kimarie (husband John), Danielle (husband Peter), Denise (husband Michael) and Nicole, grandchildren; Joshua, Luke, Michael, Jordan, Ethan, Jacob, Jonathan, Alex, Jack, Hallie, Gavin, Kayla and Abigail, and great-grandson Malakai.
Marie was an extremely talented hairdresser, a career she loved for more than 50 years - 26 years of which was at the Design Masters Hair Salon she owned and operated with her husband in Bay Shore, New York. She was never seen without lipstick on, a habit she passed along to her daughters. She was also a phenomenal cook and had an incredible gift of hospitality.
Her most important relationship was the one she had with Jesus. She was a devoted follower of Christ and shared His love and salvation message freely with all who knew her. She was always gracious and forgiving, often saying, “Love covers a multitude of sins,” and a true example of a Proverbs 31 woman. This was the most important legacy she passed on to her family and they take great comfort knowing she was welcomed into heaven with the declaration, "Well done thou good and faithful servant." She will be greatly missed by all those who remain but we know we will meet again.
