Obituary

Robert A. (Bob) Veiga died on June 26, 2020 in West Islip, NY at the age of 81. He was a son, a husband, a father, a brother, an uncle, a grandfather, a friend and a Marine. He was also, quite simply put, one of the kindest, most loving and generous of men. He was born on July 7, 1939 in the Bronx (first of his siblings to be born in a hospital) to Jacinta and Josephine (Rey) Veiga. He was the youngest of five children. The Veiga family moved to Springfield Gardens. After graduating Far Rockaway High School, Bob joined the Marine Corps and served with the 2nd Battalion, 12th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. He was honorably discharged on December 3, 1963. He also had a successful civilian career working for the Consolidated Edison Company of New York for 40 years, never taking a sick day. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Jack, and sisters Violet, Helen and Olema. He met and married the love of his life, Ellen Washienko, on June 24, 1967. He was blessed with four beautiful children, Bobby (Renae), Patty (Chris), Mary Ellen and the late Jimmy Veiga. God truly blessed him with seven wonderful grandchildren: Cate, Emma. Anne, Elizabeth, James, JP and Maccoy. Who were truly the love of his life and meant the world to him. Bob loved fishing, clamming, fixing all the cars, and taking good care of his home. He also was a ferocious reader. But his first love was his family. He was the rock you could always count on. He was never too tired or too busy to help you. Simply put, he never said no to any of us...not me, his children and definitely never his grandchildren. Bottom line, he never said NO to us. Reposing at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy., (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.). Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial Wednesday 10am at St. Patrick's R.C. Church, Bay Shore, LI. A private interment will take place at St. Charles Cemetery at a later date. Visiting Tuesday 4pm-7pm.
