Obituary

SCHAEFER, ALICE R., nee: Thomas, of East Islip, passed on June 25, 2020 to join her beloved husband, SSgt. Alan F. Schaefer, USMC, Vietnam, 1/67. She leaves her beloved children, Alan J. and his loving wife, Jodi; Karen A. Kahn and her husband, Jerry; Robert F. and his dear wife, Rosemary; and Lynda A. Nolan, and her husband, Andy. Always a “mom” to Jane McFarland (David). She was a loving grandmother to: Kristen, Madison, Jett, and Reef Schaefer; PO1 Stephanie and CPO Justin Apple, USCG; Zachariah Kahn; Robert and Keshia Schaefer; Catherine and Louis Guardino; Elizabeth Schaefer; and Sgt. Joseph Murdock, USMC, and his brother Casey Nolan. Also, a beloved great-grandmother to Teagan, Cambree, and Graham Schaefer; Joseph Murdock; Hunter Lee Apple; and Hunter Paul Guardino. Originally from South Ozone Park, Queens, NY, her parents were Joseph Thomas and Celia Bodganski. Predeceased by her sisters Eileen Smith (Charles) and Rita Boman (John R.) and her nephew John, and survived by many special nieces and nephews. Alice was employed by the Connetquot Central School District for 43 years. She was a dedicated secretary to 9 principals at the Ronkonkoma Middle School where she was considered a Matriarch to the many members of the Ronkonkoma Middle School “families” for whom she cared dearly over the years. She also leaves behind many friends and especially her “forever friends”, Joan Nixon, Mary Ann Casalino, Kathleen Murphy, Diane Cuccia and the late Betty Carr, whose friendships she cherished.
